is this what's really going on these days, because that would make more sense.

Well, it's Monday again, friend. What a weekend, what a world, what a life... the dumpster fire that is this moment in time is something else, huh? Here are a few things that might just help, though:

these women are messy, the story is bonkers, we need more movies like this...

The Girlfriend (Amazon Prime)so this 6 episode psychological thriller is off the rails!! Since finishing it last Thursday, all I've wanted to do is discuss who should've died and how crazy everyone in this story is. It is WILD. Have you seen it? Have you read the book it's based on? Did you also put the audiobook on hold at your local library as soon you could? Mothers, please watch how you treat your precious sons, and for how long - you'll just ruin life for everyone if you don't. That's my takeaway from this masterpiece, anyway. Now, I'm a woman of a certain age, so I got to see all of those delicious '90s psychological thrillers when they hit video or my neighbor's cable channels. I highly recommend those, too (yes, I'll make a list for you, of course I will). Like, the final showdown has a huge, GLARING issue that still makes me laugh and want to slap the writers who adapted the story for the screen. I still can't even with it, please watch so we can discuss, thank you!

Podcasts:

I love to draw and crochet while listening to something, my neighborhood, music, audiobooks, but mostly podcasts, and mainly three of them. Settle in, get cozy, and meet some new podcast pals!

join Tall John, Zooooks, and Joooon on Fridays (and Mondays for releases from the vault) wherever you listen to podcasts

How Did This Get Made - this is the first podcast I ever listened to, and after 15 years, we're still going strong! If you love dissecting bad movies with friends for fun, you've come to the right place. You'll hear June Diane Raphael, Paul Scheer, and Jason Mantzoukas (and guests) share their feelings about films like Batman & Robin, Morbius, any Sylvester Stallone or Gerard Butler movie, after having just watched it themselves. There is literally no episode that will make you sad, they will only make you laugh out loud. Every Friday you'll get to hear either their latest episode, or a "Last Looks" episode where Paul and a pal discuss errors and omissions for the last movie they did, answer life's big questions, and passes along recommendations of his own - always stellar stuff. Every Monday, they release an older episode from their 15 year run, since those are no longer available to us at our whim anymore, which bums me out because the Sleepaway Camp episode always cheered me up.

yes, i do want to be marine biologist, but i'm too old, so i'll listen to this and pretend!

So You Want To Be a Marine Biologist - this podcast came out in 2019, and the last episode listed is from this past June, so I hope Kara Grace Muzia is recording more episodes to posts soon. Kara is phenomenal - she finds the most fascinating people in marine biology to interview, and gives us listeners a truly inside peak at what it's like to be a shark conservationist or a marine biologist artist. Maybe you want to learn about Pygmy Blue Whales or marine volcanology - this is the podcast for you! I can turn on one episode and suddenly it'll be three hours later and I'm doing a google search for ways I can find a job near me in ocean conservation. Who doesn't love podcast like that?

you can learn about breathing through your butt, invasive cocaine hippos, & werewolf tomatoes all right here!

The Weirdest Thing I Learned This Week - the magazine, Popular Science, came out with this amazing podcast years ago and it was recommended to me by a librarian friend. These three clever PopSci editors bring in a story each week that they fell upon while researching stories for the magazine, and we get to learn how women actually are physically stronger than men, all about nonbinary birds, or the strangest Olympic games. And they bring in incredible people like author Mary Roach to guest host - what's not to love?? Once they've all shared the weirdest thing they learned that week, they vote on who taught us the weirdest thing that week. That honor is one to top, seriously.

Four different, wonderful, and fun things to take your mind off of the world at large, my friend.

you're welcome ;)
