don't actually tell me, i know it isn't great. instead, let's watch something! what a world, what a world. is it feeling super heavy for you, too? that's okay, i've got your back for when you need to take a break fighting the powers that be. this week, it's in the form of a list of super sweet psychological thrillers from the 1990s. what a time to be alive, amirite? so here they are, a list of my most rewatched and beloved genre "films" that will be sure to entertain you and your friends, or teenagers. these titles are not your typical Fatal Attraction, Basic Instinct , top-tier 90s thrillers, but they are watchable. trust that i have seen all of them, some multiple times, alone or with friends. i would never tell you to watch something i haven't spent 89 minutes or more of my own life watching. and of course, i highly recommend watching any of these entertaining cinematic enigmas with your favorite alcoholic beverage or legal drug of choice; c...

is this what's really going on these days, because that would make more sense. Well, it's Monday again, friend. What a weekend, what a world, what a life... the dumpster fire that is this moment in time is something else, huh? Here are a few things that might just help, though: these women are messy, the story is bonkers, we need more movies like this... The Girlfriend (Amazon Prime) -  so this 6 episode psychological thriller is off the rails!! Since finishing it last Thursday, all I've wanted to do is discuss who should've died and how crazy everyone in this story is. It is WILD. Have you seen it? Have you read the book it's based on? Did you also put the audiobook on hold at your local library as soon you could? Mothers, please watch how you treat your precious sons, and for how long - you'll just ruin life for everyone if you don't. That's my takeaway from this masterpiece, anyway. Now, I'm a woman of a certain age, so I got to see all of thos...

it's fall, FINALLY. Happy Monday, indeed, my friend. Have you been outside lately? Has it cooled down where you live? Keeping your windows open at night while you curl up with a cup of tea, wrapped in a soft, cozy blanket? I love it. I'm really only here for Spring and Autumn, so this bug is super snug. I'm not "pumpkin-spice-my-life" crazy about fall, but I really appreciate the weather and how the sunlight is dimmed. And since I just moved to an entirely different part of the country, I'm excited to see how the PNW does autumn. I hear-tell of wildfires, smoky air, lots of rain, and no more sun until April. To which I say, finally, thank you, bring it, yes please, wooohoooooo! And this brings me to this week's recommendations: Get Lost in Your Own Town : Pretend you're a tourist or someone who just moved to where you currently live. Take a tour, eat at places you've never been, shop where you've only ever looked through the windows, make the o...

It's been a week, gang, but that's where great recommendations are found.  Books:  Everyone on This Train Is a Suspect/Everyone This Christmas Has a Secret (Ernest Cunningham series #2 and #2.5) - Benjamin Stevenson - ⭐⭐⭐⭐  who doesn't love a good train Whodunnit?? Having listened to the first book in the series,  Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone  a couple of months ago, I listened to both of these books last week while curled up in a ball on my couch cursing my digestive system and laughing my ass off. Stevenson's narrator Ernest "Ern" Cunningham is a character I want to be friends with. He's an Everyman of today surrounding by, well, family and friends who are...murderers and liars! Maybe not entirely murderers, maybe not entirely liars, but yes, there are absolutely murderers, just maybe not who you, or even Ern, think. What I love about these books is how relatable Ern is, and narrator Barton Welch's voice sounds so familiar and safe. He ...

welcome to Highly Recommend ! it's where i share lists of what doesn't suck in a time when things most certainly suck...and it could even be worse but i wouldn't know, i'm not here for the news this year, shhhh, thanks. you are so welcome here, safe space! i recommend things a lot, mostly streaming movies,  tv shows, podcasts, books i'm listening to, crochet patterns or food i think about a lot (looking at you, cheese) , fun facts about sharks or cephalopods, and people seem to either love them or be incredibly confused by them, which opens the door to fascinating conversations and research, which opens all of the doors and...honestly, the sky's the limit. learning's fun, so what? i like so many things the way keanu loves so many puppies. what i don't like, i'm finding, is unrelenting sunshine and temperatures above 70f. total news to me, but the rainy season is coming up, so all hope is not yet lost. but i digress, which, to be fair, will happen mor...
